Water Purification Modules
Hurricane Mitch in
Honduras and Guatamala in 1998, the Tsunami in Indonesia in 2004, Hurricane
Katrina in Louisana in 2005, and the very large earthquake in northeastern
Pakistan in 2005 are some of the major natural disasters that devastated
large areas and left large numbers of people with no road access and no drinking
water. Water-borne diseases, such as cholera, spread quickly in a vulnerable population if there is no access to clean water. Equipment Delivery Using the Heli-Basket System The Heli-Basket®
system can deliver equipment, such as water purification systems, emergency lighting, and emergency power, to sites so devastated that even a helicopter can not land. One Size Does Not Fit All
Water purification equipment ranges from very basic units, such as the one illustrated on the right which can supply 4500 gallons per day, to high-capacity, advanced units which need trained operators. The system shown in the photo is relatively inexpensive and has been widely used in Third World countries. If the equipment is stolen in the middle of the night--not an uncommon event--replacement is relatively easy. Using a Heli-Basket many of these basic water purification units (and other relief supplies) can be delivered to isolated communities in a short period of time. PLI's Water Purification Module includes the following components: gasolene or diesel powered water pump and electric generator, water purification unit, hoses, bladder tank for temporary storage of purified water, optional folding tank or bladder tank for storage of water to be processed (also functions as a settling tank), optional security cabinet for purification equipment, lighting, and a HB2000 Heli-Basket.
